WHAT REMAINS
I grew up in a family that was active in a Christian church. We attended services twice a week. And, Easter was always a special Sunday. New dresses. Special songs. Special dinner. And, of course, an Easter basket!
As I grew older, my religious beliefs changed. And, while our family traditions turned from church to eggs and bunnies, I can still take pause and recognize the lessons to be drawn from the Easter traditions I grew up with.
For me - Easter is a reminder of the power of love and second chances. That love is bigger than anything in its way. That we can leave our old lives behind and focus on the new day ahead with all its potential.
I don’t know. Something about that feels very sacred right now at this stage of life.
Transitions. Reinvention. Change. Hope.
You don’t have to be religious to honor the sacred - death, rebirth, beginnings, ends, transitions, miracles, hope.
You just have to take pause, open your heart and listen.
So, that’s the invitation I’m offering up to you this week.
In honor of this sacred day at the end of March and the start of a new month, wherever you are, whatever obstacle you’re facing, whatever you need to let go, whatever new project or challenge you are stepping into, whatever transition you are moving through, I invite you to join me in honoring it while recognizing the miracle of a new day.
Let today be a day of fresh starts, new beginnings and new life.
Speaking of church and Easter, I feel like a preacher today with my little sermon, lol.
Well, no good church service would be complete without a song, so I’m going to offer that up, too!
LOVE IS BIGGER THAN ANYTHING IN ITS WAY
It’s funny that this song came to mind because I’m not really a U2 fan, but I do have mad respect for their art and activism. This song plays on one of the Spotify playlists I listen to on my morning runs. And, while at first listen, it seems to be a message to the young, it’s also a powerful message for midlife - new doors, obstacles, finding your voice and singing your song - "When you think you're done. You've just begun."
THE LYRICS:
The door is open to go through
If I could I would come, too
But the path is made by you
As you're walking start singing and stop talking
Oh, if I could hear myself when I say
(Oh love) love is bigger than anything in its way
So young to be the words of your own song
I know the rage in you is strong
Write a world where we can belong
To each other and sing it like no other
Oh, if I could hear myself when I say
(Oh love) love is bigger than anything in its way
If the moonlight caught you crying on Killiney Bay
Oh, sing your song
Let your song be sung
If you listen you can hear the silence say
"When you think you're done
You've just begun"
Love is bigger than anything in its way
