Your child is learning to walk, falls down.. are you the parent that tells the child “I am disappointed you keep falling, you’ll never learn to walk.”? Or you smile and say: “good try, you are doing progress. You must be so proud of yourself getting your steps together.”?
Than why beat yourself up for progressing in small steps? When you are ready it comes out naturally. You can’t force it.
Wow! It took about 3 seconds for me to think of a few projects I want to REvisit! And I did not know that RE Is an actual word. Great article — thank you!
Yes! I’ve been writing the same book for decades. I haven’t written much in this one though. One of my blocks is *What am I going to cut out to make time for that?* I love going to the gym, doing fun things with my kids, hiking with my dog… Throw in work and routine stuff… I usually shrug and let it go. Help!
Actually that’s a great topic too. Sometimes the things we really want require us to let go of something to make room. And we have to get honest with ourselves about what we really want.
When it comes to big goals, for me, I find I get there faster when I let go of the finish line and focus on the baby steps. For example, my coffee challenge - 50 coffees is a lot. But 1 or 2 coffees each week is what will get me there.
Writing a book is a huge goal. Writing a couple pages/week is doable. Can you create much smaller actions toward your goal?
This newsletter is another example of small steps. One blurb each week. Doesn’t take much time & actually helps me have a better week. 12 months later, I have a lot of content here on my page.
(Of course, I’ve written nothing on my personal blog this year. Lol! Again, I do better with some public accountability. Knowing I have subscribers expecting me to show up in their inbox, makes me show up.)
My advice - break the goal up into smaller pieces - put it on your calendar whether 15 min or an hour - then create a system for accountability that works for you - whether a friend or public forum - then practice - know you will mess up and get off schedule - but that’s half the fun - get back on + keep going. Pretty soon you will realize it’s not costing you a thing - it’s adding time, not costing you time. 🤗

So very true Miha! And all the real fun happens in the ups & downs along the way. (If only we can keep remembering that.)
